Consultant Connect wins the Barclays Award for Innovation at The Oxford Trust Enterprise Awards 2018.
The Barclays Award for Innovation, is part of the Oxford Trust Enterprise Awards. It is given to a company whose innovation is having a major impact on the industry in which it operates. Organisations nominated in this category need to have created a new technology that is not only starting to fulfil its market potential but also benefits society and the regional economy.
‘We were delighted to be shortlisted for this Oxford Trust Award. The company’s first home was in the Trust-owned Oxford Centre for Innovation and we benefited from both the working space and the presence of other innovative start-ups in the neighbouring offices. The awards themselves are well known locally and, given all the talent there is in Oxford, being shortlisted felt like a real achievement. It’s been a great few years and, now winning this award feels like the icing on the cake.’
– Jonathan Patrick, CEO of Consultant Connect
Consultant Connect enables GPs to communicate immediately with local hospital colleagues by phone, instant message and photo-message. This means GPs can use it to get advice about patients who are with them, often enabling that patient to avoid an unnecessary trip to hospital. It is estimated that our Telephone Advice & Guidance solution service has saved the NHS over £10 million by ensuring patients are given the right treatment from the beginning. In fact, over 60% of calls through Consultant Connect avoiding unnecessary referrals to hospitals and/or the A&E.
Since launching our first project in NE Essex in June 2015, Consultant Connect has expanded to offer its service in over 60 areas of the UK. One quarter of the patient population is covered by Consultant Connect’s service.
‘This is a golden period for innovation in the NHS. Austerity has been an unbelievably tough challenge but the silver lining is that commissioners and hospitals are more open than ever to new ways of doing things. New ways of making money go further and improving patient care through technology. Against this background we have a new Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, an individual with experience of technology and who has committed to a policy of improving the tools that clinicians use to care for their patients. My message to all innovators is to consider working with the healthcare sector, there has never been a better time to make a difference to the NHS.’ Jonathan Patrick, CEO of Consultant Connect
